If you have a child or know someone whom has ADHD, you know that order and organization is important for them but also very hard for them to create for themselves. I had to watch my son for so many years, not understanding why something I find to be so natural to be so difficult for him. I started to do some reading and with adhd, you are typically visual and need reminders. I started to leave notes throughout the house to see if this would help. Yes… post it notes all over the home. On bathroom mirrors, walls down the stairs and doors on the way out.
Will he remember his backpack without my help?
Will he pack his homework back into his back pack?
Will he brush his teeth?
All of these things and so much more!
IT WORKED!!!!!
I then talked with his psychologist to come up with the items we found most important for him to remember without help and start with those… helping him to create a habit. 🙂 This is a simple thing that goes a long way for people who have ADHD!
I also just learned that habits are great for everyone! So maybe you can use this trick for yourself! 🙂 I know I love it!
Have you tried sticky notes? If so, let me know how this helped!
